and PKard Assistant recognizes the SmartTerminal XX44, but neither KeyChain Access nor PKard Assistant notice when I insert my GEMALTO CAC. The reader's light doesn't flicker when I insert the card either.
/Library/Logs/com.thursby.pki is zero bytes, so nothing is getting written.
The CAC works just fine on another machine which has an SCR3310 reader on it. Unfortunately I can't swap the readers.

I suggest you to check in the device manager if the card reader is recognized.

Software For Cherry Cac Reader On Macbook Air

Temporarily disable security software and firewall and check if the Smart card reader is detected, and also try to connect to a different USB port and check if it works.

I suggest you to go to manufacturer’s website download the latest drivers for the card reader which are compatible with Windows7 and install.
